How to Get Rid of Stretch Marks

There are many ways on how to get rid of stretch marks during and after pregnancy. Most methods prove effective after a long period of time. Your stretch marks may not completely fade away but they will be less noticeable.

Pregnancy creates a period of transition where you experience many changes both physically and emotionally. Stretch marks occur when your body grows faster than your skin. This growth makes the elastic fibers underneath the skin to break thus causing stretch marks. During pregnancy, you gain 30 or more pounds. Such rapid weight gain may cause stretch marks to appear on your skin.

Below are various methods, or remedies you can use to reduce the appearance of stretch marks on your skin.

Aloe Vera

Aloe Vera helps in soothing your skin. It is also known for having healing properties and also helps in moisturizing dry skin. In a bowl, squeeze fresh aloe vera gel from its leaf. Add one vitamin A and E capsules in the bowl. Stir the mixture and rub it on your stretch marks gently until it dissolves into your skin. Apply this mixture twice everyday for quick results.

Olive oil

Olive oil contains antioxidants and nutrients that help repair damaged skin cells. It also locks in moisture to the skin cells which helps your skin to feel soft and less itchy. It is safe for u to use olive oil during and after pregnancy. During pregnancy, apply a one teaspoon of olive oil on your belly and your back. Massage your skin gently until the oil dissolves into your skin repeat this daily throughout your pregnancy. After delivery, you can mix two teaspoons of olive oil with two teaspoons of ground coffee. Rub the mixture on your stretch marks for one minute and then leave it for 20 minutes. Wash off the mixture with lukewarm water and then apply a moisturizer. Repeat this everyday for faster results.

Lemon Juice

Lemon’s acidity helps in healing stretch marks. Lemons also help in lightening the appearance of dark or purple stretch marks. Squeeze fresh lemon juice on a bowl; add two vitamin E capsules and 4 drops of rose water to the juice. Stir the mixture and apply it on your stretch marks and let it dry. You can also mix two teaspoons of honey and one teaspoon of lemon juice in a bowl. Apply the mixture on your skin and allow it to dry overnight.

Castor oil

Castor oil should be applied to the skin after delivery. Apply castor oil on your stretch marks and massage in on your skin for a few minutes. Cover the area with a cotton cloth for 20 minutes and allow the oil to penetrate deep into your skin. For quick results apply daily.

Retinoid cream

If you are looking for fast results, retinoid creams can help reduce stretch marks in a short period of time. Tretinoin helps in rebuilding the skin’s collagen and restoring elasticity. However, these creams may not be safe to use during pregnancy and you should see a doctor before applying them so as to know possible side effects.

Laser treatment

Having laser surgery is a more permanent and effective way to get rid of stretch marks. It is the best and most effective method to remove stretch marks. Once your skin has healed, new layers of skin will form and the stretch marks will be gone. Lasers are expensive and painful but they give the best results.

Instead of hiding your stretch marks by covering them up, try any of the above remedies on how to get rid of stretch marks.
